Since the summer of 2011, I have been increasingly interested in patterns in what I see and in painting the essence rather than the precise representation of what I see or remember.  Painting more and more abstractly has been a wonderful challenge.  Most recently, painting with acrylics has been both a challenge and a reward. I’ve gone from reacting to the archival films of the 1946 Pacific atomic bomb tests to “remembering” the beauty of Iceland or New Zealand, sometimes using acrylics like watercolor and sometimes laying the paint on thickly with a rubber wedge.  Whatever works.
